Machine Room Ducts
Most big factories and industrial buildings have machine rooms where huge machines that are used for manufacturing or modifying consumer products are kept. There are many people in this country who are employed as machine technicians and work in these machine rooms.
Filtered air, heat, and cool air are supplied to these machine rooms through machine room ducts that are an integral part of any HVAC network that keeps air in any workspace comfortable. However, most of these machine room ducts in systems installed before the mid 1970s may contain asbestos, which make them a hazard to the workers.
Asbestos was the material of choice for decades when it came to any type of insulation, especially in HVAC systems. Many people who worked in these machine rooms and were provided with treated air through ducts that contained asbestos developed serious diseases. By the time the dangers were made public in the 1970s and use of asbestos became regulated, it was already too late for many people. The number of people who worked in these machine rooms and have been affected by one of the asbestos-related diseases like mesothelioma is astounding.
