H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center
Opened in 1986, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center is located in Tampa, FL on the campus of the University of South Florida. Somewhat new with regards to hospital standards, the Moffitt Cancer Center is continuing to grow and make a name for itself within the realm of cancer treatment facilities.
As a comprehensive cancer center, the Moffitt Cancer Center has dedicated itself to the treatment, support and prognosis of all types of cancer, including mesothelioma. Being tied to a university, the center has focused itself on combining laboratory research and education to help find progressive treatments.
The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center is home to a comprehensive approach to disease known as Total Cancer Care. Developed in 2003, this approach focuses on a holistic treatment process that aims to improve cancer care with case by case and evidence-based treatment choices. They also focus to combine this approach with long run integration using technology, research and scientific discovery.
The Total Cancer Care approach is extremely progressive, when it comes to the way that data is stored and analyzed at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. This strategy collects clinical information and data throughout each individual patient’s life time, through a completely digital process. This helps to create an electronic database which profiles past health issues with different sets of access for patients, physicians and researchers. This comprehensive information source allows doctors at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center to come to the best informed decision when it comes to cancer treatment and support.
A major area of importance at the Moffitt Cancer Center is the psychological well being and support of its patients. The center allows for a set of psychologists, social workers, and chaplains to provide for both patients and their family. The support also extends to cover holistic and complementary treatment approaches that are growing in the cancer community. This includes onsite services like meditation, message, and chiropractic care. These approaches can not only help to improve mental well being, but have also been known to relieve side effects of common treatment such as nausea, pain and dizziness.
The Moffitt Cancer Center also boasts a number of accomplishments and awards since its inception. Consistently listed as a top hospital for cancer care, it continues to climb up the yearly rankings. In 2010, the Moffitt Cancer Center was ranked by the U.S. News & World Report in the top 20 for cancer treatment facilities.
