Dr. Linda Lee Garland is a great name in the field of Medical Oncology. She currently serves as the Clinical Director of the Lung Cancer Program at the Arizona Cancer Center. Dr. Garland also serves as an investigator for the Arizona cancer Center, as well as the Cancer Prevention and Cancer Program. She also serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona Tucson in Clinical Medicine.
The education track for Dr. Garland began in 1988 when she received her medical degree from the University Of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She then went on to complete a residency in 1993 at the University Of South Florida College Of Medicine in Tampa, FL. Dr. Garland followed up her residency at USF by completing a fellowship in Oncology and Hematology in 1996 at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. Also, she has gone on to be board certified by the American Board of Medical Oncology.
Dr. Garland has a wide range of both clinical and medical research interests. Her primary interests include small cell and non-small cell lung cancer, pleural mesothelioma, chest malignancies as well as other types of pleural diseases and mediastinal tumors. She also takes part in a number of new treatment and therapeutics with malignant mesothelioma.
Dr. Garland works with new trials using chemotherapy agents designed to inhibit activity within signal pathways. Because both small cell and non-small cell lung cancers are difficult to diagnose, Dr. Garland is working to design trials with new chemo agents and small molecules in the process of providing more potent levels of anticancer activity. She has also helped to define appropriate targets in a lung cancer patient’s tumor by using biologic assays of tissue, allowing for better therapy.
Throughout her 19 years of experience, Dr. Garland has continued to become more recognized in the medical community through multiple achievements, including being published in numerous journals and publications. She has been published in major journals such as “Clinical Cancer Research” and “The Journal for Clinical Oncology,” among others.
